Typhoon Kit Route Characteristics
Track and Movement Characteristics
Typhoon Kit (197201) 的生命史始 at 1972年1月4日08时, formed at Northwest Pacific低纬度海域 (9.9°N, 142°E) .
After January 9, the track reversed completely. From its position at 08:00 on January 9 at 12°N, 121.7°E, the storm turned toward the northeast. Before dissipating on January 12, its latitude rose as far as 16.3°N and its longitude moved eastward to 133.1°E. The typhoon made no landfall anywhere and remained at sea throughout its life cycle. Its track followed a typical parabolic pattern of moving westward, turning back, and then exiting toward the northeast, with most of its intensity changes occurring at low latitudes.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
Kit的Intensity变化剧烈且迅速. 系统在 formed初期仅为Tropical Depression, 气压1006hPa. Go to 1月6日后快速增强, 仅用不到两天Time, at 1月7日08时达到巅峰状态, 此时中心最低气压降至933hPa, max wind 达50m/s, 评定为Severe Typhoon级别.
Compared with previous storms of the same name, the 1972 typhoon had a significantly higher peak intensity, with a central pressure of 933 hPa, than the storms of the same name in 1988 (970 hPa), 1985 (959 hPa), and 1978 (980 hPa), though it was slightly weaker than the 1981 super typhoon Kit (924 hPa). This shows that although the 1972 typhoon had a relatively short life cycle and made no landfall, its rapid intensification was among the stronger cases in the Kit family and displayed the characteristics of a typical oceanic severe typhoon.

FAQ
Typhoon Kit is the 1972 Typhoon.
The identifier 197201 for Typhoon Kit is the historical number retained by the CMA, meaning the first numbered typhoon of 1972. Its international name was KIT. International numbering in the Northwest Pacific did not begin until 1981; before then, agencies assigned their own numbers. The numbers used by JMA (Japan), the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (USA), and China’s meteorological authorities for the same typhoon may differ and cannot be compared directly.
Where does Typhoon Kit's track data come from?
Path. Data sources: China Meteorological Administration Tropical Cyclone Best Track Dataset (CMA-STI); wind speed refers to 2-min sustained wind speed. Track points at intermediate times are encrypted based on original operational positioning data, while wind speed and pressure are interpolated using best-track anchor points.
What level is the Typhoon Kit strongest?
Typhoon Kit peak intensity is Severe Typhoon, max wind 50m/s, minimum central pressure 933 hPa.
Is there a Typhoon KitLandfall?
According to records, the Typhoon Kit is not in our coastal landfall.
Where can I view typhoon Kit's live track map?
