Characteristics of Typhoon Irma
Path and Moving Characteristics
Typhoon Irma (197130) at 1971年11月8日在Northwest Pacific低纬度海域 formed, 初始Position位 at lat 7°N, 142.6°附近.
The key turning point in its track occurred from November 12 to 13. When the center reached its westernmost position near lat 18.6°N, 128.4°E, the typhoon attained its farthest westward extent. Its direction then gradually shifted from northwest to north-northeast, and after November 15 it accelerated toward the northeast until it weakened and dissipated near lng 174.4° on November 17. This large-scale turn was consistent with the influence of pre-trough flow in the mid-latitude westerlies on the typhoon track, causing the system to move rapidly eastward away from the Asian continent after reaching higher latitudes.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
Tropical Depression.
Compared with previous typhoons of the same name, the 1971 Irma was exceptionally intense. Its minimum pressure of 884hPa was far lower than that of Irma in 1981 (905hPa), Irma in 1985 (957hPa), and the severe tropical storm records from 1988 and 1993. As a super typhoon that formed in late autumn 1971, its peak intensity ranked first among cyclones of the same name in history, demonstrating a rare process of energy accumulation and release.

FAQ
Typhoon Irma was the first Typhoon of 1971.
The designation 197130 for Typhoon Irma is the historical number retained by the CMA. It was the 30th typhoon of 1971, while its international name was IRMA. International uniform numbering in the Northwest Pacific did not begin until 1981. Before then, each agency used its own numbering system, so the numbers assigned by JMA (Japan), the USA Joint Typhoon Warning Center, and China's meteorological agencies for the same typhoon may differ and cannot be compared directly.
Where does Typhoon Irma’s track data come from?
Track data sources: China Meteorological Administration Tropical Cyclone Best Track Dataset (CMA-STI); wind speeds are 2-minute sustained wind speeds.
What is the most powerful typhoon Irma?
Typhoon Irma peak intensity is Super Typhoon, max wind 65m/s, minimum central pressure 884 hPa.
Is there a Typhoon Irma Landfall?
According to records, Typhoon Irma is not in our coastal landfall.
Where can I view typhoon Irma's live track map?
