Typhoon Faye Route Analysis
Track and Movement Characteristics
The key northward transition occurred from November 22 to 24. As the system moved deeper into the Northwest Pacific, its direction shifted from due west to northwest, with its latitude rapidly rising from 11.8°N to 17.2°N. After November 25, under the steering influence of the mid- and high-latitude westerlies, the typhoon made a pronounced turn near 23.6°N, 129.6°E and then accelerated toward the northeast. It finally dissipated over the high-latitude ocean near 48°N, 175°E on November 27. No landfall was recorded during its entire lifecycle, as it remained mainly over the open ocean.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
该Typhoon 经历了典型的“缓慢酝酿-爆发增强-快速减弱”过程. 前期 (11月14日-20日) Intensity波动较小, 维持在15-20m/s的Tropical Depression或Tropical Storm级别. 11月21日起Go to 快速增强期, 短短4天内Pressure从989hPa骤降至926hPa, max wind 从30m/s飙升至75m/s, at 11月24日达到Super Typhoon巅峰状态.
After its peak, Faye rapidly weakened as it moved to higher latitudes and encountered cooler sea surface temperatures. Wind speeds fell to 65m/s and central pressure rose to 947hPa on November 25. By November 26, when it had moved north to 33.8°N, it had weakened to typhoon intensity, with winds of 40m/s. It ultimately degenerated into a tropical depression near 50°N.
Compared with previous typhoons of the same name, Faye in 1965 was significantly more intense. Its minimum central pressure of 926hPa was far lower than those of Faye in 1995 (960hPa), 1985 (963hPa), 1989 (980hPa), and 1992 (988hPa). In the other listed years, the same-named typhoons peaked only at typhoon or severe tropical storm intensity, whereas Faye in 1965 reached super typhoon intensity, making it the strongest of the listed historical cyclones with this name during comparable periods.

FAQ
Typhoon Faye was the 1965 Typhoon.
The identifier 196523 used for Typhoon Faye is a historical sequence number retained by the CMA, corresponding to the 23rd typhoon of 1965, while its international name was FAYE. The unified international numbering system for the Northwest Pacific did not begin until 1981. Before then, individual agencies used separate numbering systems, so the identifiers assigned by the JMA (Japan), the Joint Typhoon Warning Center of the United States, and China’s meteorological agencies to the same typhoon might differ and cannot be compared directly.
Where does Typhoon Faye's track data come from?
Track data sources: China Meteorological Administration Tropical Cyclone Best Track Dataset (CMA-STI); wind speeds are 2-minute sustained wind speeds.
What is the highest level of Typhoon Faye?
Typhoon Faye peak intensity is Super Typhoon, max wind 75m/s, minimum central pressure 926 hPa.
