Typhoon Trix Route Analysis
Track and Turning Characteristics
The typhoon track then turned markedly in response to the steering flow from the westerlies. Beginning on September 16, the system turned northeast and rapidly increased in latitude. From 26.5°N on September 16 to 50°N on September 19, it moved across more than 23 degrees of latitude northward in only three days, entering high-latitude waters. This abrupt turn and rapid northward acceleration were consistent with the track pattern typical before extratropical transition. The system eventually weakened and dissipated over the western North Atlantic without making landfall and caused no direct impacts on land.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
Compared with storms of the same name, the 1965 Trix was significantly stronger, with peak intensity of 934hPa and 65m/s winds, than the Trix typhoons of 1978, 1968, and 1963, which recorded pressures of 970hPa, 978hPa, and 980hPa, respectively. Although the 1971 Trix had a lower minimum pressure of 915hPa, the 1965 Trix still qualified as an extremely destructive super typhoon because of its maximum winds of 65m/s. Its unusual long-lived track without landfall made it a typical case for studying the maintenance of typhoon intensity over the open ocean and the extratropical transition process.

FAQ
Typhoon Trix is the 1965 Typhoon.
The identifier 196519 for Typhoon Trix is the historical number retained by the CMA, meaning the 19th typhoon of 1965, while its international name was TRIX. The internationally unified numbering system for the Northwest Pacific began in 1981. Before then, individual agencies used their own numbering systems, so the numbers assigned by the JMA in Japan, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center in the United States, and China’s meteorological agencies may differ and cannot be compared directly.
Where does the track data for Typhoon Trix come from?
Track data sources: China Meteorological Administration Tropical Cyclone Best Track Dataset (CMA-STI); wind speeds are 2-minute sustained wind speeds.
What is the Typhoon Trix?
Typhoon Trix peak intensity is Super Typhoon, max wind 65m/s, minimum central pressure 934 hPa.
Is there a typhoon TrixLandfall?
According to records, the Typhoon Trix is not in our coastal landfall.
