Typhoon Trami Trail Characteristics Analysis
Track and Movement Characteristics
Typhoon Trami (202420) began its lifecycle as a tropical depression at 17:00 on October 21, 2024, with an initial position at latitude 13.1°N and longitude 129.6°. During its early formation, the system moved steadily toward the northwest, advancing gradually from waters east of the Philippines in a west-northwesterly direction. From October 21 to 25, its latitude rose slowly from 13.1°N to 17.6°N, while its longitude shifted substantially westward from 129.6°E to 117.3°E, indicating stable steering currents and a relatively straight track.
It is worth noting that a significant shift in the Moving direction of the Typhoon occurred after reaching lat 17.6° on October 25th at 14pm. A subsequent set of data showed that its latitude began to decline from N toward S (from 17.6°N to 16.7°N on October 27th), while the length continued toward W extended. This 'first-NW, after-SW' path pattern, showed that the system was affected by the ground or surrounding circular flow when it approached the S peninsula coastal, and there was a noticeable S-fracture. Finally, the system at October 27th at 10:40 at the coastal Landfall near the port of Vietnam and the linear boundary, and rapidly weakened after the Landfall, ended at October 28th at 11.
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
From the perspective of intensity changes, “Trami” underwent a typical “enhanced-top-weakened” process. Initial phase is Tropical Depression (15m/s) , then intensified into Tropical Storm on October 22nd. During the 23rd to 25th of October, intensityined at Tropical Storm level (23m/s, 990hPa) , Go to platform period. From the afternoon of October 25th, the system rapidly enhanced, then upgraded to Severe Tropical Storm and Typhoon . On October 26th at 18 am reached peak intensity, the central minimum air pressure dropped to 970hPa, max wind to 33m/s. However, the peak stateined shorter Time, only about 12h, due to nearland friction and environmental factors, intensity dropped dramatically,
Compared to the typhoon of the same name, the 2024 “Trami” Intensity is at a medium level. compared to the typhoon “Trami” of the 24th of 2018 (top Super Typhoon, minimum pressure 920hPa) and the typhoon “Trami” of the 12th of 2013 (top Typhoon, minimum pressure 957hPa), the typhoon’s core pressure is higher, wind speed is lower, has not reached the Severe Typhoon or above level. but compared to the 5th typhoon “Trami” of 2001 (top only for Tropical Storm, minimum pressure 997hPa), the structure of the “Trami” in 2024 is more complete, intensity is significantly stronger, showing more typical Tropical Cyclone development characteristics.
