Typhoon Gilda trajectory
Track and Movement Characteristics
Intensity evolution and historical comparison
In terms of intensity, Gilda underwent the full cycle of formation, intensification, peak intensity and weakening. Initially, the central pressure remained near 1006 hPa, with winds of only 10 m/s. After July 1, the pressure dropped sharply to 985 hPa, and the system rapidly intensified into a tropical storm before becoming a typhoon the following day. From July 3 to 5, it was at peak intensity, with a minimum central pressure of 944 hPa and maximum winds of 40 m/s, which it maintained for about 48 hours. Thereafter, influenced by the high-latitude environment, its pressure rose and winds dropped sharply. By July 7, it had weakened to a tropical storm and eventually ended its life as a tropical depression near 42°N.
Compared with previous typhoons of the same name, Gilda in 1974 had greater peak intensity than Gilda in 1977 (967 hPa) and Gilda in 1971 (968 hPa), but was weaker than Gilda in 1967 (907 hPa, super typhoon intensity). Gilda in 1974 also reached a higher intensity than Gilda in 1965, which was a severe tropical storm. Overall, Gilda in 1974 was a moderately strong typhoon, notable for its long life over the open ocean and clearly defined northeastward turn, and it caused no direct impacts on land.

FAQ
Gilda was the 1974 Typhoon.
Typhoon Gilda's 197408 designation is a historical numbering designation used by the CMA, corresponding to No. 8 of 1974. Its international name was GILDA. International typhoon numbering in the Northwest Pacific did not begin until 1981. Before that, agencies used their own numbering systems, so the numbers assigned by the JMA (Japan), the USA Joint Typhoon Warning Center, and China's meteorological authorities may differ and cannot be directly compared.
Where does Typhoon Gilda's track data come from?
Track data sources: China Meteorological Administration Tropical Cyclone Best Track Dataset (CMA-STI); wind speeds are 2-minute sustained wind speeds.
What is the highest level of Typhoon Gilda?
Typhoon Gilda peak intensity is Typhoon , max wind 40m/s, minimum central pressure 944 hPa.
The Gilda Landfall Typhoon.
According to records, Typhoon Gilda is not in our coastal landfall.
